August Blog Back to School
August Back to School Month
All the fun and excitement around back to school. Whether it be meeting your school friends again for another exciting year of academics or school shopping, finding discounts for new clothes, and supplies, and the never-ending grocery trips for school lunches.
We spend a lot of money on our children at school beginning and during the whole school year. Then, of course, the activities such as sports and sporting equipment, band interments and equipment, choir apparel, dresses, hair, nails and suits, and flowers for school dances.
School Check Lists
Things parents can consider for a back-to-school checklist:
School supplies: Make sure you have the right backpack, lunch box, water bottle, and other essentials.
Logo Apparel: You can also check with the school to see if they have items you can buy with their logo.
Routines: Set a routine early, and encourage your child to reset their sleeping habits a few weeks before classes start. Study Space: Plan for organizing homework and extracurricular activities.
Nutrition: Provide your child with nutritious snacks and regular meals.
Wellness: Schedule a wellness checkup for your child at least once a year.
Forms: Keep up with any forms that come in. ( This means checking backpacks or asking the child to put such papers in a specific place for signing like field trips, athlete forms, band camp, choir forms, school plays and so on.
Appointments: Schedule appointments and sign up for fall activities.
Before and after school care: Make plans for before and after school care.
Communication: Talk about school with your children, and go to Back-to-School Night and Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Safety Tips
Phones down, heads up – When walking near and around cars keep your heads up and be aware of your surroundings.
Headphones and phones can distract pedestrians from seeing oncoming traffic and can result in injury.

Cross at an intersection: When crossing the street always be sure to cross at an intersection instead of the middle of the block. Crossing someplace other than an intersection accounts for more than 70 percent of pedestrian deaths.
Wear a helmet: When biking to school make sure kids always wear a properly fitted helmet. Helmets are the best way to prevent head injuries and death when riding a bike. If you are not sure how to properly fit a helmet you look at the Helmet Fit Test!

Bus Safety – If your child is going to take the bus to school, it’s important to talk to them about basic School Bus Safety to prevent injuries. Teach kids to wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before entering the bus and to keep three giant steps always from the bus until it comes to a complete stop.
